A good suburban gym located 5 kilometres south of the city centre. This is a surprisingly good gym. Many Thai gyms away from the posh city centres are not up to scratch, but this gym is amongst the best you will find in Chiang Mai. It is fully equipped with modern, new fitness equipment, including bikes, treadmills, a separate free-weights and machine area, with a few large things such as a truck tyre and heavy ropes to move around (great fun). There is also group aerobic, yoga, and weight classes, and Muay Thai—the Thai national boxing sport. If you feel the need to learn how to box you can do so here. There are separate male and female change rooms, with lockers and showers. No pool or running track. Like Fitness has a small cafe, tea, coffee, and healthy snacks. It sells take away healthy meals, whey protein, and—most important for a good work out—it has briskly cool aircon.
You can come here for the hour or for the day! Hours—good. The times vary over a week, but early to late every day. Monday to Friday: 07.00-24.00. Saturday 07.00-23.00. Sunday 08.00-23.00. Public holidays, best to call ahead. Unlike some gyms in Chiang Mai you can pay as you go. The fee for one day is 80 baht (au$3), a month 1100 bath (au$40), while a year’s membership will set you back the princely sum of 8,900 baht (au$350). Also it has a walk in policy, for the day rate simply enter, pay your money, sign your name once, and then you are in. No paperwork. Two negatives. There is little English spoken here. Most customers are Thais, though it is easy enough to convey your wishes. The staff do know what they are doing. Second the (male) change room is rather small. If there is a crowd, expect to wait your turn.
Also, no wifi (but you came here to work, right?) There is parking for bikes and cars at the front. The gym is located near a Big C (supermarket chain). Getting here for the first time can be a little tricky. The gym is on a side street, off from the main road. Going past you can see treadmills from the main road, but by the time you have seen these you have missed the turn-off. Drive past the Big C, take the second left, 50 metres and you are there. If you are living or visiting in southern Chiang Mai and are in need of exercise, this is the place to go. A good workout at a great price.
